Perennial
<1' feet tall Shade Blooms May to June Wet to Medium Site Bluebead lily (Clintonia borealis) is a forest floor species, hence it likes moist, cool, shaded and slightly acidic conditions. A great option for more experienced gardeners looking to naturalize a wooded area of the garden. The yellow flowers give way to gold speckled and then brilliant blue berries, which are enjoyed by birds and chipmunks. Plants are happiest spending the winter topped with a mulch of mixed pine needles and leaf litter. Growing Instructions Cold, moist stratification required. Mix seeds with moist substrate (vermiculite, perlite or moss) and place in a plastic bag and refrigerate for 6-8 weeks. Sow seed at 1/8 inch depth. Do not let seedling dry out while it is establishing. OR Sow directly outdoors in late fall to overwinter.
