Description

Canada Mayflower (Maianthemum canadense) is found in coniferous forests, usually in the boreal regions. A small white wildflower  with a clonal growth habit, meaning they will spread after the first plants are established. The white flowers bloom in spring, and red berries follow. It is a look-alike for the non-native Lily of the Valley. It is a good selection for acidic soils. Has a hard time competing with taller species.

Growing Instructions:

Indoors: Wet and cold stratification required. Mix seeds with moist substrate (vermiculite, perlite or moss) and place in a plastic bag and refrigerate for 4-6 weeks. Then sow seed at 3/4 inch depth. Do not let seedling dry out while it is establishing.

Outdoors: Sow directly outdoors in late fall to overwinter.

Seed can take anywhere from 30 days to 2 years to germinate. Please label the area you have planted if direct seeded and keep it weed free.
