Description
A Yule log cake, also known as a Bûche de Noël, is a traditional French Christmas dessert that is shaped and decorated to resemble a miniature log of wood. It is a festive and popular centerpiece for holiday meals. This tradition is based off the ancient pre-Christian burning of a large log in the hearth during the winter solstice festival of Yule. The burning of the log was a symbol of warmth, light, and good fortune for the coming year. When large hearths became less common in the 19th century, French pastry chefs transferred this custom to an edible dessert.
